Fibers

Fibers are the raw materials used in fiber / textile arts. Webster’s Dictionary defines Fiber thusly:

“a thread or a structure or object resembling a thread: such as a slender and greatly elongated natural or synthetic filament (as of wool, cotton, asbestos, gold, glass, or rayon) typically capable of being spun into yarn”

They fall into two categories, natural and man made. Within each of these categories are further sub-categories.

Natural fibers are broken down into animal, vegetable, and mineral.

Manmade fibers are broken down into

*Cellulose fibers are manufactured fibers made from natural sources.

There are certainly more than this but it gives you a good idea. (These tables will be updated as I come across more arts fibers in my reading.)
